I've done this cover for the CHINESE WHISPERS UCHRONAL COVER REMODEL: Superman #1 proposed by Warren Ellis in Whitechapel. [link]
It takes me two days to do it. The first one to draw the picture and the second one working with photoshop.
Now, there's a lot to say about that picture, but there is one important thing to know before. Warren Ellis said: "You have been told that Superman is a man who dresses predominantly in a shade of blue, and wears a red S symbol. You know nothing else about the character." So, this is the main idea. I don't know the powers of this character. That's why in the picture you don't really know if he's falling or flying, for example. There's not any demostration of power. You can only see him and the city.
Then, I've wanted to do something totally diferent. It's a superhero but I've done it more urban-wear. So, in some ways, I've thought about this Superman's uniform as a kind of Policeman or firefighter.
And then, the mask. Why a mask? I've thought about myself. If one day I had Superman's power, what would I do? The problem with the glasses is that when you're Superman you're just a hero and when you're Clark you're not yourself. Then, when can you be just "you"? I would wear a mask, but I've tried to do it friendly, people must not be afraid of me.
The best thing it's not only that I'm very proud of this picture, but the lot of stories with this character I've thought about while drawing him...
